A SERIAL killer did not understand why people would be so outraged at his execution of a child.

Paul Steven Haigh, 49, was jailed for life with no minimum term after murdering seven people, starting in the late 1970s.
..:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
His victims included a nine-year-old boy and his mother executed in their car.

Haigh is applying in the Supreme Court to have a minimum term set so he can one day apply for parole.

Haigh told his psychiatrist he had to kill the boy because he could identify him.

He also claimed the mother had used the boy as a shield.

Haigh said he couldn't see why that crime was seen as more heinous than the others and he hadn't liked the boy.

"You see I have never had children," he said.

But the court heard he did admit the boy had done nothing to merit dying by his hand.

Haigh has also written a book called "A house of blue light" which analyses his crimes and the character of his victims.

The Sentencing Act says a non-parole period must be set by the court unless it considers that the offending is so serious a minimum term would be inappropriate.

Prisoners sentenced to the maximum term can apply for a minimum, and other lifers, including Frankston triple murderer Paul Charles Denyer, have made successful applications.

But notorious sex fiend Raymond ``Mr Stinky'' Edmunds and ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Russell St bomber Stanley Taylor were refused.

The hearing before Justice Betty King continues.

US Justice Department has charged a Los Angeles couple with bribing a Thai official

The US Justice Department has charged a Los Angeles businessman and his wife with paying a bribe of $1.7 million to the former governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand for the rights to manage the Bangkok International Film Festival.
Gerald Green, 75, and his wife Patricia, 52, were arrested after a criminal complaint was filed in Los Angeles on December 7.
The charges allege that the couple conspired to pay more than $1.7 million dollars in bribes -- about 60 million baht at the time.
They claim the money was paid to a woman identified as the governor of the TAT in order to win the film festival contract and other deals worth more than $10 million.
The complaint did not directly name Thai official allegedly involved but said "she" was president of the Bangkok International Film Festival and governor of the TAT.
The only person apparently meeting that description is Juthamas Siriwan. She is currently contesting the December 23 parliamentary election with the Puea Pandin party.
Ms Juthamas denied any involvement in the scandal.
She said she would sue the US Justice Department if it attempted to tie her to the case. Her statement was difficult to reconcile since the US authorities have already directly tied her to the case.
Ms Juthamas said the bid to organise the Bangkok International Film Festival in 2003 had been implemented according to rules and regulations.
"All the procedures involving the case had been done according to the regulations and with fairness and transparence to all agencies concerned," she told a press conference Wednesday. She did not address the alleged payments by the Greens.
A press release by the US Justice Department released early Wednesday (Thailand time) said the indictment:
"... alleges that from 2003 and continuing into 2007, the Greens conspired with others to bribe a senior Thai government official who was, at the time, the President of the BKKIFF and the Governor of the TAT. As a result of her position at the TAT, the Governor was able to influence the awarding of the BKKIFF contracts as well as other TAT contracts. More than $1.7 million in payments were allegedly made for the benefit of the Governor."

Click here for the FBI's full affadavit of charges, also in PDF format.
The statement by the Justice Department said the Greens set up a company - Film Festival Management - in 2003 to bid for the rights to stage the Bangkok International Film Festival.
Between 2003 and 2007, the Greens allegedly funneled cash to the Thai tourism official, who used the money to influence the awarding of the contracts for the film festival, which is run by the TAT.
The recipient of the alleged bribes was not identified in the Justice Department statement.
The Greens face up to 10 years in prison if convicted on all charges, the statement said.
The Bangkok International Film Festival has been held annually since 2002. (BangkokPost.com, from Agency reports)

UK has left behind murder and chaos, says Basra police chief

Blunt assessment delivered as British hand over security to Iraqis (Warning: The film below contains graphic images which some viewers may find distressing) Mona Mahmoud, Maggie O'Kane and Ian BlackMonday December 17, 2007The Guardian
The full scale of the chaos left behind by British forces in Basra was revealed yesterday as the city's police chief described a province in the grip of well-armed militias strong enough to overpower security forces and brutal enough to behead women considered not sufficiently Islamic.
As British forces finally handed over security in Basra province, marking the end of 4½ years of control in southern Iraq, Major General Jalil Khalaf, the new police commander, said the occupation had left him with a situation close to mayhem. "They left me militia, they left me gangsters, and they left me all the troubles in the world," he said in an interview for Guardian Films and ITV.
.. This site/section combo is not set up to show MPU's -->Khalaf painted a very different picture from that of British officials who, while acknowledging problems in southern Iraq, said yesterday's handover at Basra airbase was timely and appropriate.
Major General Graham Binns, who led British troops into the city in 2003, said the province had "begun to regain its strength". He added: "I came to rid Basra of its enemies and I now formally hand Basra back to its friends."
But in the film, to be broadcast on the Guardian Unlimited website and ITV News, Khalaf lists a catalogue of failings, saying:
· Basra has become so lawless that in the last three months 45 women have been killed for being "immoral" because they were not fully covered or because they may have given birth outside wedlock;
· The British unintentionally rearmed Shia militias by failing to recognise that Iraqi troops were loyal to more than one authority;
· Shia militia are better armed than his men and control Iraq's main port.
In the interview he said the main problem the Iraqi security forces now faced was the struggle to wrest control back from the militia. He appealed for the British to help him do that: "We need the British to help us to watch our borders - both sea and land and we need their intelligence and air support and to keep training the Iraqi police."
David Miliband, the foreign secretary, who attended the handover ceremony, acknowledged that the territory was not "a land of milk and honey" and promised Britain would remain a "committed friend" of Iraq.
But he insisted it was the right time to hand back control. "The key conditions for the transfer of security responsibility to the Iraqi security forces are whether they are up to it: do they have the numbers? Do they have the leadership and training to provide leadership for this province? And the answer to those three questions is yes," he said.
After the handover Des Browne, the defence secretary, praised British forces - 174 of whom have died since the start of the war in March 2003. "Their contribution has been outstanding and their courage inspiring," he said. A scaled-down UK force will remain in a single base at Basra airport, with a small training mission and a rapid reaction team on "overwatch".
Britain now has 4,500 troops in Iraq. The prime minister, Gordon Brown, has said numbers would shrink to 2,500 by mid-2008 though those released may be redeployed to Afghanistan.
Khalaf, who has survived 20 assassination attempts since he became police chief six months ago, said Britain's intentions had been good but misguided. "I don't think the British meant for this mess to happen. When they disbanded the Iraqi police and military after Saddam fell the people they put in their place were not loyal to the Iraqi government. The British trained and armed these people in the extremist groups and now we are faced with a situation where these police are loyal to their parties not their country."
He said the most shocking aspect of the breakdown of law and order in Basra was the murder of women for being unIslamic. "They are being killed because they are accused of behaving in an immoral way. When they kill them they put underwear and indecent clothes on them."
In his office Khalaf showed the Guardian a computer holding the files of 48 unidentified women. "Some of them have even been killed with their children because their killer says that they come out of an adulterous relationship," he said.
Vince Cable, the acting Lib Dem leader, called for a timetable to bring all British troops home from Iraq, adding: "If we are handing power back to the Iraqis, why are 4,500 British troops needed for what is essentially a training mission?"
· The General's Last Stand: a Guardianfilms/ITV News investigation can be seen now on the Guardian website and later tonight on ITV News at 6.30pm and 10.30pm

I can already tell why u suffer, why u r in pain and why our world is dying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FEAR, there isnt a person that doesnt suffer from it, and its the only thing that will destroy us all, the "how" may vary, and the time could be short or long, but in the end its fear that will end us, and its what drives us to fill our lives with rubbish that means nothing, spending our lives working and making money for nothing, the only way to beat fear is to loose everything and have nothing, but hey a lot of people will loose even more amounts of money, so they arent gonna tell how the shits going down, but they only need it cause they are afraid, if people werent afraid they would never need jobs or homes, because they would know that there is nothing u can obtain that will take away your fear, its what causes addicts and each of the seven sins, it just comes down to FEAR. and the sooner u deal with it the sooner u will know happiness u have known before, and true freedom, u think u live in the land of the free, yet u have never even known what freedom is, just cause u think u can vote ha ha ha oh my god the fools

Can Thailand survive the death of King Bhumihol, or will it crumble???

Now regardless of whether u like the man or even the monarchy, u cant deny that the current king of thailand, is the only string that holds this whole country together. So when he moves on, what will happen to Thailand. Some are worried that there are many different factions which will go for gold, those who are for the prince, and those that are for the princess, also even those who are just plain greedy and want to rule the whole country on their own. Now to be honest neither of the first two have shown real leadership qualites, the princess is intelligent, calm and carin but can not command, and the prince is neither of those three things but can command. Also what will happen to the politicians there will be no longer any one for them to obey or listen to, when ever the shit has gone down, everyone turns to the king for guidence. Now to be honest I am a little worried, because i can promise that there will be another coup no matter on the political situation, and i fear that there will never be peace, unless of course the government are able to be more transparent and honest, but hey im not expecting pigs to fly, or money to freakin grow on trees

What kind of parents would manipulate another child over the internet??? who in the end died!!!

It has just come to my attention how another family have manipulated another child, by creating a hoax account on the internet, to try to manipulate, and then later abuse a child. What is going on in this world, are people becoming so self-obsessed that parents have to manipulate children, to get what they want. It really makes me feel quite ill, and whats even worse is that a young child has died from all of this disgusting behaviour, none of which had any benefit for society. Sometimes people really need to think about what they are doing, ask yourself
Is this going to hurt any one? How can I help? How am I improving society?
instead of thinking what can i get from this? how can i hurt somebody?
These parents deserve to be in jail, with some time alone to really think about how low they have gone!!!

Will thailand ever know democracy when king-religion-nation dominate the continuous brainwashin

Arguably Thailand has never known democracy since the monarchy lost its absolute power over the kingdom in 1932. And ever since that year individuals and groups have been fighting for control, by manipulating the people, and it goes all the way to the top. At the beginning it was the people behind the king, then it was business men, and then it was the U.S.A, and the Chinese. But the only thing that has lasted over those years is greed, and the attempts by these individuals to cheat people out of more and more money. Now to be honest the Monarchy have to side with the military cause if the shit hits the fan who else is going to protect them, so you can understand where they have been coming from, no king or queen have survived without being closely linked to the military. But in a country where the military have so much power, it can be dangerous, and a virus for any government, and many students and protestors have died trying to question, and in the name of democracy, an institution in which many people will loose money and power. So who really wants democracy in Thailand?
Its not the monarchy or the rich. Its certainly not the military. It's the people who are working each and everyday for very poor wages, and in very poor conditions, its these people that will benefit the most, but these people have no power, and many are just happy with what they have got, which has come around as kind of catch 22 for the king and the ones who wish to control the country, because without a desire to be rich, the is no real desire to work any harder than you or your family needs. But they are also happy to just bow down and follow one man.
So will Thailand ever Know democracy?
And not to forget that I'm sure corruption exists in every country and in all governments, but it is far from the eye and very well hidden, and maybe naively, not so common. Thou here people openly offer bribes and broadcast the fact they will pay for votes, and there never has been a government that's survived a term without the leader or half is party being totally thrown out because of its dirty deeds. So is it possible? Many people try to blame education, poverty, western ideals in the east, but really all people should be able to live freely, now if democracy is not working, then what is wrong with a monarchy which now all people bow down to, if he is just and honest, compassionate and understanding At least people listen, and follow what he says. Ignorance is bliss only for the ignorant. But in a country where so many are so happy with nothing, mainly cause that's how they have been trained for so long, you really cant expect them to change so quickly. And in a country where politics is business and only the rich can be politicians, its no wonder that democracy has never grown to anything more than rigged elections, false hopes and broken promises.

Canada to allow Internationaly wanted supect for paedophilia, just stay away from schools OK.!!

Vancouver, Canada (BangkokPost.com from Agencies) - A Canadian court says it let a convicted child sex abuser wanted in Thailand free on bail, because the government has not filed an extradition request to bring the man to Thai justice.
The court told Orvile Mader, 54, who ran from Thailand after police issued a warrant for his arrest, that he can go free as early as today if he simply agrees to conditions that keep him away from places frequented by kids, such as playgrounds, schoolyards and community centres.
The court appears likely to free Mader even though he has already successfully fled from one conviction for child abuse and paedophilia in Cambodia.
Canadian media noted that Mader was convicted in Cambodia of similar charges this year.
Information used to obtain an arrest warrant for Orville Mader says he was convicted in absentia in Cambodia for debauchery for offences that occurred in 2004.
Mader made a brief court appearance at court in Abbotsford on Wednesday via video link, to confirm he has obtained a lawyer and will make a bail application on Thursday, Vancouver time.
Mader has lived in Asia for years, and fled hours before his arrest last week on charges he had sex in Pattaya with an eight-year-old boy.
Mader was arrested last Friday after stepping off a flight at Vancouver International Airport and held under a protective order after a provincial court judge ruled he could present a threat to children.
Thai officials have said they will ask for Mader's extradition on child-abuse and rape charges, but the court and Canadian prosecutors said they have heard nothing from the Thai embassy or government so far.

2 more teachers murdered in southern Thailand

Sixty-one schools in Narathiwat province closed indefinitely on Wednesday morning after two teachers were murdered amidst a heavy uptick in violence and casualties in the South.
Authorities shut 42 schools in Rueso district and 19 others in Si Sakhon district.
Suwatchai Ekthananond, director of Prachapattana School, and Montri Jarong, a teacher of the same school, were shot dead by gunmen on motorcycle while they were leaving the school for their homes on Tuesday.
Three explosive experts died instantly when a bomb they were attempting to defuse placed on a bridge exploded in Panare district of Pattani this morning. A fourth soldier was injured in the blast.
A mine planted on a road near a village in tambon Talingchan of Yala's Bannang Sata district went off this morning after being activated by a patrol vehicle. The explosion wounded killed one soldier and wounded two other troops and three villagers passing by on a motorcycle.
One police officer was killed and two others wounded in a bomb explosion in Pattani's Panare district on Wednesday afternoon. The incident took place when the policemen were examining an object left on a bridge in tambon Ban Klang.
A bomb exploded yesterday at a busy market, wounding 28 people, seven of them seriously, while two public school teachers were shot dead in next-door Narathiwat.
The homemade bomb detonated by remote control exploded at a packed food stall in Muang Yala district.
Police believed a bomber placed the device under one of the stalls on Monday night and waited until customers packed the market before detonating it.
Seven of those hurt were in serious condition, said Pol Lt Col Jeerasit Lomae.
In Narathiwat, two public school teachers were murdered, said Pol Lt-Col Thanapol Meechai.
At least two assailants hidden in the brush stepped out onto a narrow village road in Rueso district and shot them with pistols while they were riding motorcycles home, he said.
The two victims were in a group of six teachers guarded by a village defence volunteer, but they had fallen behind the others, he said.
It is normal practice in the South for teachers to have security escorts to and from school.
More than 2,600 people have been killed in Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat, and some parts of nearby Songkhla, since the Islamic separatist insurgency flared up in January 2004.
An insurgent suspect was killed in an exchange of gunfire with 50 security officers in a longgong orchard in Yala's Yaha district.
It followed a tip-off that about nine armed men had turned up at a local market to buy food and then disappeared into the orchard.
The security patrol later spotted armed men in camouflage uniforms walking in the orchard.
Both sides opened fire and after a brief exchange they suspects retreated into a rubber plantation nearby.
One man identified later as Dorlamae Yasi, 26, was found dead at the scene. An HK-33 rifle and a 30cm PVC pipe containing a home-made bomb were found near his body.
In Narathiwat, police took a member of an active rebel cell to a crime scene to reenact a bomb attack which wounded a police officer in Tak Bai district.
Mahama Madeng, 26, of the Runda Kumpulan Kecil, and five accomplices allegedly planted the bomb which exploded under the pick-up truck of Pol Sub-Lt Seri Hayeeding, a deputy crime suppression inspector of Tak Bai district on Oct 26, 2005.
The officer sustained shrapnel wounds.
Meanwhile, relatives of three men apprehended shortly after they left the military-run vocational training programme and returned home have asked the provincial courts in Yala and Pattani for their immediate release.
Mayakee Manputae, 23, was arrested by police in Yala on Saturday , while Nisae Hayeetalae, 40, and Abdulroman Dueramae, 51, were apprehended on Sunday in Pattani.
The three men were among participants in the army-supervised vocational training programme for individuals with suspected links to the southern insurgency.
The programme, set to end later this month, is being run at army camps in Ranong, Chumphon and Surat Thani.
The courts in those provinces recently ruled the training was voluntary and participants were free to leave the programme if they wanted to.
The three men left the camp and returned home only to be arrested because they were banned from entering Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and parts of Songkhla where martial law has been imposed.
The Pattani provincial court will decide today whether to accept for hearing the relatives' request for the release of Mr Nisae and Mr Abdulroman.
The Yala court admitted Mr Mayakee's case for consideration. The policemen who apprehended Mr Mayakee were called to testify.
The Yala court has set tomorrow for the examining of documentary evidence to determine if the police arrest of Mr Mayakee was legal. (Bangkok Post, AP)

Two year old born with eight limbs

BANGALORE, India - Surgeons in India began a marathon operation today to save a two-year-old girl born with eight limbs.
Thirty-six doctors covering a range of specialities from paediatrics to plastic surgery are involved in the 40-hour operation at the Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore.
Doctors believe Lakshmi, who was born attached to a headless conjoined twin that stopped developing in the womb, has an 80 per cent chance of surviving the procedure.
"It has been so far so good," hospital spokesman Siva Rudrayya told AFP.
"She is responding well, although there were a lot of complications. Doctors believe she has an 80 per cent chance of survival."
Lakshmi's condition occurs only once in more than 50,000 births. She is fused to the conjoined twin, known as a "parasitic twin", at the pelvis.
Paediatric surgeon Ashley D'Cruz said it was a particularly complicated case.
"One of the baby's two kidneys is in both bodies and the doctors are trying to bring the kidney from the parasitic structure entirely into the main body," he said.
"The operation will have to be done at one go," added surgeon Sharan Patil as medical staff crowded inside the hospital's main operation theatre.
Patil warned the surgeries would "take many, many hours on a continuous basis" - up to 40 hours - and involved 30 surgeons.
But Patil told reporters: "The child has been responding very well."
Lakshmi, named after the four-armed Indian goddess of wealth, was brought to Bangalore by her father Shambhu, a manual labourer from eastern Bihar state, and mother Poonam, for the surgery.
The hospital is treating her for free.
Plastic surgeon Ashok Rajpal told reporters she needed "extensive replacement of tissues and skin from her parasitic body" but the most challenging task would be to reconstruct the venous system, or veins and blood vessels, which is shared by both bodies.
"The complex surgery is being carried out to remove the extraneous parts very carefully," Patil, the orthopaedic surgeon who heads the team performing the operation, told the Press Trust of India.
Doctors said the child was suffering from an infection and fever when brought to the hospital.
Some in Lakshmi's poor village in the northern state of Bihar revere her as a goddess.
"Everybody considers her a goddess at our village," said Shambhu, who goes by one name.
"All this expenditure has happened to make her normal. So far, everything is fine."

Is corruption in the government OK if they improve the lives of the people???

BangkokPost.com) – Thai people's sense of moral values seem to be taking a nosedive, according to the latest Abac poll from Assumption University.
The survey revealed that more than half of respondents would be willing to put up with corruption within the next government if it means their livelihood will be improved.
About 50 percent of them would consider engaging in a corrupt activity if they considered it was "necessary" to do so while more than 82 percent said they wouldn't think twice about committing a dishonest act if it meant that they would be missing out on an opportunity.
The survey also concluded that those with an elementary school education had higher morals than those with a university degree or higher.

I do love this country, but they do have a point, and its because the ones who are corrupt tend to donate more money and assitance and in general just improve the lives of the people, now this is of course only in Thailand, where most people from Bangkok dislike corruption, but its where most of it happens, the majority of the people cant even afford proper education or health so how is it possible for them to bribe any one, its only the rich living in bangkok that actually have the means to corrupt and in turn be corrupt

16 year old allowed smoking breaks at school, please what is going on in this world???

VICTORIAN schools will not be following a Canberra high school in allowing students to take cigarette breaks.
Canberra's Stromlo High School has given the green light for year 10 student Tara Lewis, 16, to smoke at school because her doctor says she is addicted to nicotine.
Tara, who smokes a packet a day, says she feels stressed if she cannot smoke between classes.
Her mother was worried she would not finish year 10 if she was not allowed to smoke.
Year 11 and 12 students can smoke at five ACT schools.
A total ban will only be introduced next year.
But a Victorian Government spokeswoman said no secondary schools would be following the ACT's move to allow students to smoke.
"In Victoria, it is illegal for people under 18 to purchase tobacco and it is also illegal for students to smoke on school grounds," the spokeswoman said.

Now kiddie I’m back, so put down down the bong and the pills i know ur pain

After spending just ten days in a monestry with a teacher studing/practicing meditation, you wouldnt believe how good one can feel just living with out all the things most people cant do without these days, such as excessive talking, singing, music, TV, mobile phones, and drugs, but mediatation is one of the greatest things there is, actually training the most important, and often the most forgotten muscle/organ in the world

staying in a temple for ten days ill see you when i get back

take care all, and i will pray for you day and night,
May all beings find happiness and peace,
and may that peace radiate throu the whole universe

another shame human beings never learn, you know we could really do something

We've had our teachers for thousands of years, except we are still stuck living like monkeys. Why is it that they have taught us about life and how to live in harmony with the whole world yet we are still squabbling over all the things that dont matter. Its a real shame because we could actually accomplish something that really means something. People are still being killed by oppressive governments and military regimes, and they still let it happen, when in the end its the people that hold all the power in the world yet they are content with letting those with money to control them and to tell them how they should live, its the other way round people, we should be telling the governments what to do not the other way round, yet you all should know all this its not new info nor is it difficult to understand, yet for some reason we are just happy being sheep and told what to do. The revolution wont be televised because its going to have to occur in the each human beings own mind, and no one in the world can do it for them, salvation lies within people, stop enjoying what the devil feeds you and hear the truth, no one can do it for U

Its a shame the greatest movie in the world is truley understood by so few!!!

Never has a movie in all of history attempted to include philosophy, religion, action, love, science, and the future all in one.
There isnt a religion you cant see in it, from Christanity, Hinduism, Daoism, Agnosticism, Buddhism and others.
It also covers philosphy from hundreds of years ago, from Kant, Descartes all the way to current thinkers.
It also covers science and computers and where are they heading, and taking us.
It also covers great topics such as free will, which when one does investigate seems to be less and less likely. Also that of choice and Love.
Love is a topic which nobody still understands after thousands of years. All we know is that is exists, we cant see it nor hear it, but we can experince it and feel it.
It also goes into what is real, for each individual experiences life and this world differently, so how do we know whats real?
And finally also Kamma, energy, cause and action, destiny and fate.
Oh and the action is absolutely amazing, which is a shame because its so good that many are unable to pierce through it to see all of the above I have mentioned.
So why do so many just not understand it?

P.S if u can guess the name ur a superstar already

400, 000 MONKS PROTEST IN BURMA DEFYING MILITARY BAN, GUESS THE U.S.A WONT HELP THERES NO OIL!

Rangoon - Tens of thousands of monks on Tuesday defied a military ban and warnings of reprisals in sixth day of barefoot marches in the streets of Rangoon.
Troops involved in the 1988 massacre of pro-democracy protesters and anti-riot police moved into Rangoon, and a showdown appeared inevitable.
The monks' marches, defying the order of the Burmese clergy which is controlled by the military dictatorship, have rocked Rangoon for more than a week.
The monks, arriving in small groups in buses and cars, first congregated at the Shwedagon Pagoda before starting to march to Sule at 2pm where they flooded the traffic circle around the downtown pagoda, a flashpoint for past protests and crackdowns.
The demonstration, exceeding 50,000 monks and laymen, was in open defiance of a government order to end their daily marches that started a week ago Tuesday, and escalated Monday with up to 100,000 marchers in Rangoon and other cities.
On Monday night, Brigadier-General Thura Myint Maung, the minister of religion, issued a televised warning to all monks to obey Buddhist rules that prohibit the clergy from engaging in political activities.
Trucks with loudspeakers prowled Rangoon's downtown area Tuesday morning warning that anyone caught watching the marchers will be liable to three years in jail and anyone who participates in the marches faces 10 years imprisonment.
Some monks have tried to depoliticize their protest, carrying placards that read, "Loving Kindness Wins All," and "Untruth will be overcome by Truth," but many laymen joining the rally were less discrete.
"The people's desire must be fulfilled," was a common cry. On Tuesday, for the first time, some protestors unfurled the Fighting Peacock flag, a symbol associated with the 1988 uprising. Others carried pictures of Aung San, Burma's independence hero and the father of Aung San Suu Kyi, the nation's democracy heroine.
Suu Kyi has been under house arrest since May, 2003. A confrontation seems inevitable, foreign observers said.
Representatives of the government-controlled Buddhist clergy organization, the Sangha Nayaka Committee, met with abbots of Rangoon Buddhist temples Tuesday morning and instructed them to prevent all monks from marching and to send visiting student monks back to the provinces.
"They told us to prevent a repeat of 1988," said an abbot of a temple in Rangoon's Yankin township.
In 1988, Burma was rocked by nationwide demonstrations against the military regime's incompetent rule, which had dragged the country down from one of the wealthiest in Asia prior to World War II to an economic basket case by 1987.
Economic hardships are partly behind the recent protests.
Without warning or consultations, the government more than doubled fuel prices on August 15, exacerbating the plight of the impoverished Burmese people overnight. The country has been suffering from double-digit inflation since 2006.
"What right do the military have to tell us not to protest?" said the Yankin temple abbot. "The monks belong to the laymen, so if the (Burmese) people are poor, the monks are poor, too."
Anti-inflation protests started building in Rangoon on August 19, led by former student activists and opposition politicians. Earlier this month, the movement was taken up by the monkhood.
The 400,000-strong monkhood has a long history of political activism in Burma, having played a pivotal role in the independence struggle against Great Britain in 1947 and the anti-military demonstrations of 1988, which ended in bloodshed.
Observers have been amazed that the military rulers have waited so long to suppress the monks' rebellion and attribute it to the influence of China on the pariah state.
"I can see no other explantion for their restraint," one European diplomat said. "They've shot monks in the past."
China is one of the few countries allied with Burma's military junta, having used its veto to prevent the United Nations Security Council from further pressuring the regime last year.
"China always adopts a policy of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs," foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said in Beijing when asked about the protests.
"We hope and believe that the Myanmar government and people will properly handle the current issues," she said, using the regime's name for the country. (dpa)

Earlier report:
Monks fear crackdown
Rangoon - A military ban on the monk-led protests that have rocked the former capital of Burma for a week persuaded thousands of Buddhist clergy to remain in their temples Tuesday morning, but a hardcore group marched to the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda.
About 100 monks arrived at the famed pagoda about noon in open defiance of a government order Monday night to abide by Buddhist "rules and regulations."
The order, which was repeated by state media Tuesday morning, has signalled that the Burmese junta is ready to crack down on the monks' barefoot rebellion, which climaxed Monday with up to 100,000 marchers in Rangoon and other cities.

No gays in Iran according to PM

HA HA i probably shouldnt laugh but but in the face of such denial and ignorance what can i do

IRANIAN President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad skirted a question about the treatment of homosexuals in Iran, saying in a speech at a top US university that there were no gays in Iran.
"In Iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country," Mr Ahmadinejad said to howls and boos among the Columbia University audience in New York. "In Iran we do not have this phenomenon. I don't know who has told you that we have it," he said. Mr Ahmadinejad was challenged during his appearance on Amnesty International figures that suggested that 200 people had been executed in Iran so far this year, among them homosexuals. "Don't you have capital punishment in the United States? You do too. In Iran there is capital punishment," he said. Mr Ahmadinejad took the stage at Columbia University after a blistering welcome from the school's president, who said the hard-line leader behaved like "a petty and cruel dictator." Ahmadinejad smiled as Columbia President Lee Bollinger took him to task over Iran's human-rights record and foreign policy, as well as Ahmadinejad's statements denying the Holocaust and calling for the disappearance of Israel. "Mr President, you exhibit all the signs of a petty and cruel dictator," Bollinger said, to loud applause. He said Ahmadinejad's denial of the Holocaust might fool the illiterate and ignorant. "When you come to a place like this it makes you simply ridiculous," Bollinger said. "The truth is that the Holocaust is the most documented event in human history." Ahmadinejad rose, also to applause, and after a religious invocation said Bollinger's opening was "an insult to information and the knowledge of the audience here." "There were insults and claims that were incorrect, regretfully," Ahmadinejad said, accusing Bollinger of offering "unfriendly treatment" under the influence of the US press and politicians. Mr Ahmadinejad has been using his trip to convince sceptical Americans Tehran doesn't need nuclear weapons and is not heading to war with the US. He is to address the United Nations General Assembly, where he is expected to ask for an end to sanctions against his regime. He is also expected to once again taunt President George W. Bush, who will push the Security Council for tougher sanctions. Two resolutions have been imposed against Iran for its refusal to renounce its disputed nuclear program. Mr Ahmadinejad defends the nuclear program as solely designed to generate electricity. On the eve of his departure he struck a defiant tone, saying warnings of military action and more UN sanctions would have no effect on the nuclear drive. In an interview with CBS's 60 Minutes Mr Ahmadinejad denied Iran was secretly trying to build nuclear weapons and was continuing to enrich uranium despite UN Security Council objections. "Well, you have to appreciate we don't need a nuclear bomb. We don't need that. What need do we have for a bomb?" he said. "In political relations right now, the nuclear bomb is of no use. "If it was useful, it would have prevented the downfall of the Soviet Union. "If it was useful, it would resolve the problem the Americans have in Iraq. The time of the bomb is past." He also said: "It's wrong to think that Iran and the US are walking towards war. Who says so? Why should we go to war? There is no war in the offing." He dodged questions on whether Iran had blood on its hands by providing weapons, including missiles, to insurgents in the Iraq war. "I'm very sorry that because of the wrong decisions taken by American officials, Iraqi people are being killed and also American soldiers. It's very regrettable," he said. The US military made fresh accusations yesterday that Tehran was supplying insurgents with sophisticated ground-to-air missiles to attack American troops. The President, who controversially asked for permission to lay a wreath at the World Trade Centre site of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, expressed disbelief Americans found his request offensive. "Usually you go to these sites to pay your respects. And also, to perhaps air your views about the root causes of such incidents," he said. Mr Ahmadinejad, a Holocaust denier who has said Israel should be "wiped off the map", has ignited protests after he was invited to speak at New York's prestigious Columbia University. Columbia has said he has agreed to take questions. New York City council member David Weprin said the invitation to speak was a "slap in the face to all New Yorkers and especially to those families who lost loved ones on September 11 right here in New York City". New York assemblyman Don Hikind said: "There is no excuse to have this madman, this little Hitler who is running around all over the world killing our soldiers. This is immoral. This is outrageous. "This is sick."

John Lennon - Imagine
Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

PLEASE HELP L.A. TO FIND THIS MAN AFTER HE MURDERED HIS WIFE AND DUMPED HIS CHILD

..FUGITIVE murder suspect Nai Yin Xue's hopes of blending quietly into the US's vast Chinese community have been dashed.
Xue's face today was plastered across the biggest-selling Chinese language newspaper in the US.
The sad tale of the murder of Xue's wife Anan Liu in New Zealand and the dumping of his three-year-old daughter Qian Xun Xue at a Melbourne railway station made the front page of the LA-based Chinese Daily News.
The story, which continued to page three, included seven photos of Xue and his dead wife and abandoned daughter.
There are 3.5 million Chinese Americans, so the report and photos could spark sightings and leads in the hunt for Xue in the US.
"Police say he could be in Los Angeles so it is a big story for us," newspaper spokesman Albert Chen said.
US authorities have confirmed Xue landed at Los Angeles international airport on Saturday.
The Los Angeles affiliate of US TV network ABC reported today that Xue caught an airport shuttle bus to Chinatown near city's downtown region, adding to the theory Xue hoped to blend into the large Chinese community.
Xue also knows the area well after spending time in Los Angeles in 2000.
The FBI, US Marshals, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and US immigration officials are involved in the hunt for Xue.
An alert, called a red notice, issued by international crime fighting agency Interpol yesterday gave the official green light to American authorities to pursue Xue.
"We're currently working with the FBI, Immigration and Custom's Enforcement (ICE) and the US Marshal's office to try to locate him," LAPD officer Karen Smith said.
Most Los Angeles TV stations, in their news bulletins last night and this morning, aired the the story about the hunt for Xue.
They showed the security footage of Xue walking with his daughter before dumping her in the Melbourne railway station.
Footage was also shown of the car in Auckland where Xue's 27-year-old wife was found dead in the boot.
A post-mortem examination of Ms Liu's body was carried out yesterday and preliminary findings found she died during a violent episode.

26 years old dies from solarium use--------------------------dont say i dont do anything for ya

AnD thIS iS her STORY, i yoU wiLL ListeN buT I knOw mosT wOnTI AM at peace.
But if I could go back and talk to myself when I was 19 I would tell that girl not to use a solarium -- that melanoma is not a small cancer that you just have cut out and you will be fine.
I may pass in another week or it could be two. If I really fight it out, I may even have six weeks left.
It's scary, because I feel myself getting more tired, and each time I feel sleepy it worries me that I might not wake up.
So far I have lived 25 years. If I am lucky I will reach 26 because my birthday is on Saturday.
It is a short life, but I have lived it.
Subconsciously I did know that cancer was involved with solariums because I was aware of UV A and UV B rays.
But when I was 19, I saw a cheap offer of "buy 10 sessions and get 20".
The girl working at the tanning salon told me the fastest way to get a tan was to come in every second day and use speed cream.
My mum told me it was abnormal to get in a box and fry myself, but I told her it was cool and everyone was doing it.
After the 10th session I was starting to burn and it hurt, so I stopped. But I guess I stopped too late.
It would be irresponsible of me to blame it just on solariums, because I grew up in St Kilda and went to the beach a lot.
But you can't tell me the Government doesn't realise the dangers of solariums.
Young girls need to go out and educate themselves about solariums before they make any decisions.
Obviously my decision has been made, and I think they should be banned. But now that you know my story and the resulting risks involved, hopefully you will realise it is not worth having a golden tan.
I am angry at myself mostly, but I can't believe how much the industry is booming.
A lot of friends tell me I still have a lot of life left in me, but I just live every day as though it is my last.
I was 22 when diagnosed. I had just finished a Bachelor of Media and Communication and a Master of Cinema at the University of Melbourne and started work as a sports journalist at SBS.
I was on top of the world.
But I only got to work for three weeks and then I found out about my cancer.
I will never get to climb the so-called ladder, and even now I complain about not being able to run the rat race with everyone else.
I know I would be good at it -- I think I would be great at it.
I wanted to go to the top, but now feel I have so much potential that will be unused.
It was 2004 when they found a tumour under my left armpit, which they treated with immunotherapy.
In July 2005, it came back and this time they treated me with radiotherapy.
I was cancer-free for a year and seven months, and then in April I found a lump in my neck. I thought they could just cut it out, but it turns out there were seven tumours in my chest and one in my lung.
Now they have stopped counting how many there are.
I had all these ideas and in the end I was ready to accept that two years would be more than enough time left.
But I have accepted it, especially now that I am nearing the end and I am at peace.
When you are someone like me you realise that life is everything and you grab it with both hands and embrace it.
If there is something that you feel needs to be done, go and do it, and do it wholeheartedly because life is short.
People ask me how I can still be so happy with all this on my plate. But I have lived my life as a spark. I don't want to live a life where I am living until I am 100 and just flat boring.
I have always lived my life with compassion and passion. I have never been one to keep my silence about anything I have felt passionate about.
Melanoma is no joke. And I will keep championing this cause till the day I take my last breath.

Why do the media always have to bad mouth and put people down, what is wrong with us???

Now I'm not her biggest fan to be honest but i think its good to finally see Britney getting back on her feet after a couple of years bad luck, why cant the media just support her for once, and its not just with her, but loads of other famous people also, what is it about the media that they seem to enjoy being negative???

Can anyone help, young or old, professional or ametur, dreamsssss

Ive been having this recurring dream for about 15 years now, of falling i know its quite common, and for most of the time i just wake up very quickley in a pool of sweat breathing heavily, with the heebie jeebies scared out of me, but then about 2 weeks later i had the dream again and almost fell to thr ground and woke up just in a normal state with no fear at all and went straight back to sleep, but again just this morning i had the same dream again but this time i had a parachute on and actuallu landed the "DREAM" and walked away, but then i woke up so excited, and confused i couldnt get back to sleep, so could any one tell whats going on here????

Thai women voted the most dangerous and scary!!!

By other foreign women, according to a Thai newspaper. Now I have first hand experince of the wrath of a Thai women, the amount of severed penises in this country is phenomonal, so I'm really not surprised. But they are also well known for there ability to steal husbands, and are able to squeeze out money each month based upon promises of staying indoors. So its no wonder the women around the world think they are dangerous and scary and probably few other things, but I wonder what it is about Thai women that makes the so??? I mean you think being buddhist and all they wouldnt care so much???

[looks up in surprise] Marge Simpson: How did the pig tracks get on the ceiling? [cuts to Homer holding a pig to the ceiling] Homer Simpson: [singing Tune to Spider-Man Theme Song] Spider-Pig, Spider-Pig. / Does whatever a Spider-Pig does. / Can he swing / from a web? / No he *can't*, / He's a pig. / Look out! / He is the Spider-Pig!

[Lisa and Colin are separated by the dome and are saying their good-byes] Bart Simpson: [singing] Lisa's got a boyfriend, that she'll never see again! [Lisa slugs him out]

Chief Wiggum: [shouting at a naked Bart] Stop, in the name of American squeamishness!
Bart Simpson: Don't shoot! If you kill my dad, you'll never know where the treasure is buried. Russ Cargill: What treasure? Bart Simpson: The treasure of Ima Wiener. Russ Cargill: I'm a wiener? [Homer and Bart laugh] Homer Simpson: Classic.
Lisa Simpson: But I'm so angry. Marge Simpson: You're a woman. You can hold on to it forever.
Bart Simpson: [on the blackboard, in the open sequence] I will not illegally download this movie.
[the Green Day barge is dissolving in polluted Lake Springfield] Mike Dirnt: Gentlemen, it's been an honor playing with you tonight.
[in the middle of the movie] Title Card: To be continued. [pause] Title Card: Immediately.
Russ Cargill: There's a couple of things they don't teach you at Harvard Business School: One is how to cope with defeat, the other is how to handle a shotgun. I'm going to do both right now.
Moe: What are you telling us, were trapped like rats? Russ Cargill: No, rats can't be trapped this easily, you're trapped like... carrots.
Dr. Nick: Bye, everybody!
Homer Simpson: It's the epiphitree!
EPA Driver: Look, we can't keep stopping at every "sop", "yeld", or "one vay" sign!
Marge Simpson: Despite everything, I miss your father. Bart Simpson: Me too... his big fat ass could shield us all.
Russ Cargill: I was tricked by an idiot! Cletus: Hey, I know how you feel; I was beat in tic-tac-toe by a chicken.
Bart Simpson: You know, we are on the roof. We could have some fun. Homer Simpson: What kind of fun? Bart Simpson: How bout a dare contest? Homer Simpson: That sounds fun! Teachers, church minister arrested for child pornographyArt

THE arrest of 13 Queensland men on child porn charges shows how hard it is to protect children from sexual predators, police say.
A teacher, church minister, unemployed preschool teacher and a man certified to work with children are among those arrested and charged as part of a Queensland police operation codenamed Stingray.
The operation was part of the long-running Taskforce Argos - an anti-child exploitation project.
Since the operation's launch in May, 28 search warrants were executed in south-east Queensland, leading to the 13 arrests and the seizure of more than 800,000 pornographic images and videos.
"These are not images of children frolicking on the beach," Acting Superintendent Peter Crawford told reporters in Brisbane.
"We are talking here about the serious images of children being sexually abused.
"There are victims behind every image and it is our responsibility to try an identify these victims."
All but three of the 13 men have appeared in court, charged with possession, distribution and production of child exploitation images.
Another four are the subject of further inquiries by police.
Among those charged are a 29-year-old teacher from Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast, a 68-year-old church minister from Eagle Heights, west of the Gold Coast, and a 38-year-old unemployed preschool teacher from Brisbane.
Another man, a 47-year-old engineer from Yatala, south of Brisbane, has been identified as the holder of a blue card.
Blue cards are required by those working with children in Queensland, and are issued after a detailed national check of a person's criminal history, including any charges or convictions. It also examines any past disciplinary action or police investigation information.
The range of men arrested in the police operation demonstrates the difficulties of protecting children, Supt Crawford said.
"I think that sends a clear message to the community that it is impossible to know who might be involved in these types of activities," he said.
"It's very, very difficult to be able to protect ourselves and our children."
Police expect to make further arrests after they examine a large amount of computer equipment seized in the raids.
In another operation, codenamed Foxtrot Beau, police said a 30-year-old man from Kallangur, in Brisbane's north, had been arrested for trying to engage in online sexual activities with a 13-year-old girl.
A covert operation found the man allegedly engaged in explicit sexual conversations in an online chatroom.
The man was identified by police after he forwarded images of himself to a covert officer, which ended with a raid on his home and his arrest yesterday.
He will appear in Petrie Magistrates Court on September 21.

Tenor Luciano Pavarotti, 71, one of the greats dies

TENOR Luciano Pavarotti, 71, has died. He had been gravely ill after his operation for pancreatic cancer last year and return to hospital last month.Pavarotti was taken to hospital with a fever on August 8 in Modena in the north of Italy. He was discharged on August 25 after diagnostic tests were completed. Hailed as one of the greatest tenors of his generation, Pavarotti underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer more than a year ago and has since had at least five rounds of chemotherapy. Following his surgery Pavarotti cancelled subsequent concerts, sparking fears that he may never perform in public again. He was forced to abandon a 40 concert farewell tour that began in May 2004. This summer during a ceremony in honour of the singer on the island of Ischia near Naples, his wife said that Pavarotti had been feeling well and was preparing a new album. "We can never be sure with this illness, but I think that Luciano will pull through," she said. "He is doing well. He is finishing the fifth chemotherapy cycle. He has not lost a hair and he hasn't lost weight." The same day, July 10, Pavarotti called the ceremony's organisers and concluded by saying he was preparing another Pavarotti & Friends album. Overnight, Pavarotti had expressed his "emotion" following the establishment of a "cultural excellence" prize in Italy that he had been the first to receive. He said he was "full of emotion and gratitude ... because it gives me the opportunity to continue to celebrate the magic of a life spent in service of art". Pavarotti broke into the world of opera when he won the top prize in a competition in 1961, for which he was rewarded with the role of Rodolphe in Puccini's La Boheme in nearby Reggio Emilia. He went on to perform across Europe before crossing the Atlantic in February 1965 for a production of Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor in Miami, Florida, with Australia's Joan Sutherland as Lucia. It was with Sutherland in February 1972 that Pavarotti truly came of age, taking Covent Garden and the New York Metropolitan Opera by storm with a sparkling production of another Donizetti favourite, La Fille du Regiment. But he managed to shock purists with his appearances in live concerts, sometimes alongside pop musicians. In 1991 a crowd of 150,000, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, braved the rain and cold in London's Hyde Park to hear him sing. The previous year Pavarotti had hit an even wider audience, when his performance of the aria Nessun Dorma, from Puccini's Turandot, was chosen as the theme music for the 1990 Football World Cup, hosted by his native Italy. Among his best-known initiatives in recent years have been his appearances with two other leading singers, Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo, as the Three Tenors, and the annual Pavarotti and Friends concerts in Modena.

B52 carried nukes over US by mistake

THE US military is investigating an alarming security lapse when a B-52 bomber flew the length of the country last week loaded with six nuclear-armed cruise missiles.
The blunder was reported to President George W. Bush after the nuclear warheads were discovered when the aircraft landed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, a military official said on condition of anonymity.
The air force official said the B-52, which originated at Minot Air Base in North Dakota, had six cruise missiles with nuclear warheads loaded on pylons under its wings.
The US Air Force had relieved the munition squadron commander at Minot Air Base in North Dakota of his duties and launched an investigation into the August 30 incident, a Pentagon spokesman said.
"At no time was there a threat to public safety,'' said Lieutenant Colonel Ed Thomas.
"It is important to note that munitions were safe, secure and under military control at all times.''
The Pentagon would not provide details, citing secrecy rules, but an expert said the incident was unprecedented, and pointed to a disturbing lapse in the air force's command and control system.
"It seems so fantastic that so many points, checks can dysfunction,'' said Hans Kristensen, an expert on US nuclear forces.
"We have so many points and checks specifically so we don't have these kinds of incidents,'' he said.
US politicians expressed outrage at the incident.
"It is absolutely inexcusable that the air force lost track of these five nuclear warheads, even for a short period of time,'' said Representative Edward Markey, a Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee.
"Nothing like this has ever been reported before and we have been assured for decades that it was impossible,'' he said.
Two Republican politicians on committees overseeing military affairs, Jim Saxton and Terry Everett, said they were "deeply concerned'' by the incident and said the United States must "ensure our nuclear assets are protected by the highest safeguards".
The breach was reported by the Military Times newspaper yesterday and confirmed by the Pentagon later in the day.
US Defence Secretary Robert Gates was told of the incident last Friday by air force chief of staff General Michael Moseley, Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell said.
"I can also tell you that it was important enough that President Bush was notified of it,'' Mr Morrell said.
The weapons were among 400 advanced cruise missiles that the Defense Department quietly decided to retire in March over the course of this year.
The advanced cruise missile is a stealthy, longer range version of the air launched cruise missile first deployed in the early 1980s.
It carries W-80 warheads of up to 150 kilotons, ten times the destructive force of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima at the end of World War lI.

Phi Phi death boat overloaded

65 tourists were on board the King Fisher, which was licensed to carry only 15 people. The capsized boat King Fisher, which sank off Phi Phi island on Tuesday, was carrying 50 more people than allowed, chief of Krabi Marine Transport Office Suriya Kittimonthon said yesterday. He said police have already detained boat driver Suriyan Soison, 34, for further questioning. The King Fisher was taking the tourists to Maya Bay, a popular diving spot in Krabi, when it capsized. An Israeli man died and another Israeli tourist was seriously injured, said Pol Maj-Gen Choochat Suwannakhom, Tourist Police Division commander. The dead man was identified as Nissim Lugasi, 33. He was trapped under the boat and died. The propeller almost cut off the left leg of another Israeli tourist, Adam Bedbichevsky, 24. Mr Bedbichevsky is now in stable condition. Tourism and Sports Minister Suvit Yodmani said his ministry will ask authorities in destinations where water and marine sports are popular to strictly enforce water transport safety.
