What is a Buddhist country?

It's sad that often kindness is taken for stupidity, to lend(give) someone money, or to work for free and you are labelled an idiot, and then if you say you dont care about money, they will label you as completely insane. What is it to label a nation Buddhist or catholic or muslim. For any country Ive been to, there is no country that is 100% any religion, and the poeple who "follow" the main religion arent always the "best" followers. But what can you expect when people pick and choose which "rules" they obey and which rules arent so important. it comes back to the practice what you preach, more people around the world are quick to judge what others are doing without reflecting on their own behaviour, until of course they become the object of judgement which is easily brushed aside as an accident, or not even their fault or just plain lie about it. It's easier for people to judge others behaviour than it is to change ones own. But it's to label oneself or ones children as Buddhist or Muslim, but is it true when you dont follow the "rules", How many Catholics use contraceptives? How many Muslims drink alcohol? How many Buddhists Lie and steal?

Genesis 3.22 is clear. We choose the rules we follow from our holy books, because we have the knowledge of good and evil. It even says in the bible we have become equal to God.
That said, it leaves us with the responsability of our own lives and that of the planet (lets say our neighbours) in our own hands.
Everything we do (installing governments, police, laws, army) degrades our sense of responsability. If you do not kill because it is illegal by law and you can go to jail.... then you in fact can kill if you think you can get away with it. If you do not kill out of inner conviction, then you will not.
Awareness and inner conviction are rare commodities these days unfortunately.

I think awareness and inner conviction have always been rare, not just these days, otherwise why would we need gov and religion which u didnt mention, from wat i see most people just keep up the status quo, if ppl steal from them, then they see it is a justification to steal also. I on the other hand dont. Its the if u cant beat them join them mentality, which is basicaly allowing yourself to be brainwashed. As you no longer become aware of what you are doing, and the reaction to your action. An eye for eye makes the world blind, if all steal, we will all be poor. I just dont understand how people can go around claiming to be something they are clearly not, then blame others for their behaviour. But what can you expect in a place where there is no education, and little freedom.
